Stormwater treatment

Location

Quebec City, QC

Timeframe

2015

Description

Companies are facing increasingly stricter environmental laws, so St-Lawrence Stevedoring asked Deric Construction to design and build a basin to collect the rainwater from the Beauport terminal, which had been running into the St. Lawrence River.

The project consisted of modifying two separate storm drain systems to intercept the existing systems and send their contaminated water to a treatment pond. All of this needed to be done while minimizing the impact on port activities.

Main features

  • Created a 90 m x 30 m x 7 m concrete treatment reservoir that can hold more than 10,000 m3 of water
  • Built two pumping stations with four 100 HP pumps more than 6.5 metres below high tide
  • Installed 5 km of 450 mm and 550 mm HDPE pipes
  • Installed 5 purging and draining stations, one of which has a capacity of over 110,000 kg
  • Built two 25 kV electrical buildings and laid more than 400 metres of power line housing
  • Excavated more than 40,000 m3 of granular material
